The story of Marble Mountain Estates begins in 1993, when the first grapevines were planted on this land, then known as Côte de Bras d’Or. At the time, the vineyard played a foundational role in Nova Scotia’s emerging wine industry, supplying grapes to Jost, one of the province’s pioneer wineries.

Long before the first vines were planted, this land was already known for its abundance. A nearby marble and limestone quarry supported the small seaside village of Mable Mountain, while the this farm, Hillbrook Farm, sustained the community, producing food from the very soil that now nurtures our grapes.

In 2012, Cape Breton native and head winemaker Ken MacLellan purchased the winery (Eileanan Breagha Vineyards) bringing with him formal training from UC Davis and a hands-on, experimental approach. The winery grew into a place known for small-lot, handcrafted wines where he is always exploring new varietals, unique blends, and innovative styles.

Today, the winery has entered a new chapter as an East Coast island-owned operation. While ownership has evolved, Ken remains closely involved, continuing to shape the wines with the same passion, precision, and creativity that have defined the winery for over a decade.
